A new gameplay trailer for Black Book debuted today during the Guerilla Collective event, and it’s packed with demons. Black Book is a hybrid card-based RPG/adventure game set in a world where legendary monsters coexist with humanity.
The plot revolves around Vasilisa, a young sorceress who would rather marry than become a witch. Unfortunately, her intentions change dramatically when her fiancée dies in a tragic and mysterious manner, and Vasilisa sets out to acquire the famous Black Book—a demonic tome that may grant the wish of anybody who discovers its seven seals.
Hunting for an evil book to bring someone back to life seems risky, and the video displays a lot of card-based combat confrontations with Slavic folklore creatures. But it’s also an adventure game, and players will converse with individuals they meet in the countryside while solving puzzles and completing side-quests.
Vasilisa may also gather and control her own flock of demons, but that comes with its own set of risks. “Send demons to do your bidding, but be careful—idle devils will torment you if you don’t find them something to do!” says the Steam website for Black Book. Anyone who has had a boring pet gnaw on their hand will understand.
Black Book is set to be released in 2021.
