Sonic Mania and Horizon Chase Turbo are both available for free on the Epic Store.

This week, the Epic Titles Store is giving away two games, both of which are about speed: Horizon Chase Turbo, an arcade racing game, and Sonic Mania, an old-school platformer featuring a blue hedgehog that runs really fast.

Horizon Chase Turbo is a “tribute to vintage arcade racers” with a 16-bit-inspired graphic design that trades realism for speed. It has 111 circuits and 48 towns to race through, as well as 33 unlocked vehicles and 12 different cups to compete for. If you prefer multiplayer, it offers local split-screen racing for up to four players as well as an “Online Competitive Ghost Mode” with pals and worldwide leaderboards.

Sonic Mania is a retro-speedster in its own right, bringing traditional 2D gameplay into the contemporary day in an all-new journey with new bosses and intricate levels. In our 82 percent rating, we dubbed it “the greatest Sonic game in years”: “A frantic platformer that builds on traditional Sonic to create something new and interesting.”

Horizon Chase Turbo and Sonic Mania are both available for free until July 1. The Spectrum Retreat, a near-future narrative-driven first-person puzzle game set within the walls of The Penrose Hotel, a “peaceful yet disturbing haven from the outside world,” will be given away next week.
