Chains of Domination, World of Warcraft’s long-awaited 9.1 updates, is now available.

After an excruciatingly long wait, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands’ first big update is officially available. Chains of Domination is finally here, after 218 days (the longest gap between an expansion launch and its x.1 patch in WoW history).

That means there’s a new zone to explore, more Covenant levels to grind, and (beginning next week) a new raid, mega-dungeon, and seasonal upgrade for Mythic+ dungeons and PvP.

I was cautious to get my expectations up for update 9.1, but I’m really rather thrilled to return to the Shadowlands. There are hundreds of major updates that solve many of the issues that players experienced with Shadowlands’ endgame, including a huge revamp of Torghast, the new roguelike dungeon that was launched in November. Torghast no longer limits the number of times you may die before failing a run, instead of awarding a score depending on how efficient your run is, and it also features brand new wings and secret levels that can lead to some neat cosmetic prizes.

In addition, players may now fly in the Shadowlands’ four main leveling regions and utilize their non-flying horses in The Maw, which has been redesigned to be less intimidating and menacing.

There’s still a lot to speak about, especially when new features like the Sanctum of Domination 10-boss raid and the Tazavesh mega dungeon become available. Check out our in-depth analysis of Chains of Domination for additional information.
