Cozy Groove, an Animal Crossing with a touch of spookiness

Animal Crossing is one of the things that makes it so unique is it calming. There are not many other games like that; they’re laid out and tranquil in such a way that many games aren’t. Often it feels less like a game and more like a place to rest. But now the New Horizons is gone for over a year, you might just be waiting for something a little different. Cozy Grove can only be this: it’s got a lot of what’s so amazing but tightened up. There is also spooky stuff, too.

What you do in the game is pretty much like Animal Crossing. You can capture fish, gather fruit, collect seashells, and make new equipment and crafts for your campsite decoration. For failure, there are no deadlines or fines. However, Cozy Grove is a little more planned. The spirits, all lovely creatures, are going to call for very particular items such as locating and fishing for dinner.

For those who like this additional structure, it’s a nice system, and Cosy Grove even does something unexpected: it allows you to log out. Every day there are only a few quests and it’s likely to take less than 30 minutes to finish. After that, you’re free to do as you want — fishing, decorating, doing crafts — but the game shows you cannot go on until the next day. When a game is respectful of your time, it is always good. Like Animal Crossing, Cozy Grove has become a routine for me, a fun spot to dive into every day for a short time. It allows the world of hands to be exceptionally charming. It helps. There’s also some amusing writing and backstory if you really wanna jump into the rabbit’s hole.

Cozy Grove is now available via Apple Arcade, and it has been found to suit smartphone. When I have been notified of new quests, I spent twenty minutes in the game and finished. It might be the calmest time of my day. On April 8th, Cozy Grove will also be joining the Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC for those who do not have access to Apple’s gaming service.
