After many days of heavy-handed teasing, Activision has officially revealed that ’80s action hero legends and fellow Johns Rambo and McClane will be available as premium operator skins in Call of Duty: Warzone on May 20.
Survivorjohn#1009062’s data were tweeted by the Call of Duty account earlier this month, kicking off the fun. It seemed mysterious, but Twitter user Eric Maynard deciphered it: The Rambo series consists of five films, and our intrepid hero murders a total of 552 people among them, according to the Rambo Wiki (yes, there is a Rambo Wiki). Oh my goodness!
A few days later, a more direct tease arrived, this time in the shape of a phoney advertisement for Nakatomi Duct Cleaning, a clear allusion to Nakatomi Plaza, the building at the heart of the first Die Hard. Following that, the Call of Duty account tweeted Cowboymcclane#0070030’s stats. Several times in the film, John McClane is referred to as a “cowboy.”
Obviously, something was in the works, and now it’s official: the action begins on May 20.
And just what is “the action?” The details haven’t been released yet, but I’d anticipate skins, some voice lines (I’d pay real money to run about saying “Schieß dem Fenster” at everyone), and maybe some classic weaponry, such as Hans Gruber’s P7M13 or Rambo’s M60. We could even see more of these characters in the future: Rambo and McClane are a good start, but is it truly a sequel to Black Ops: Cold War without Chuck Norris and Dolph Lundgren? No, I don’t believe so.
