Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, the classic Dungeons & Dragons RPG from 2001, will be re-released on PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on May 7. And, since time seems to be flying by these days, I’ll warn you that it’s tomorrow.
To be clear, this is not a remaster or rewrite of Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance, but rather a faithful port for modern hardware. However, it is worth noting that it supports up to 4K resolution on the Xbox One X, PS4 Pro, and, through backwards compatibility, the Xbox Series X and PS5. The game will also be re-released on PC and mobile in 2021.
Fans of the Dungeons & Dragons and Baldur’s Gate series, particularly Dark Alliance, should be aware that a spiritual successor to Dark Alliance 1 and 2 will be released next month on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One. Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a co-op role-playing game in which you can take on the roles of Drizzt Do’Urden, Catti-Brie, Bruenor Battlehammer, and Wulfgar from R. A. Salvatore’s novel series The Legend of Drizzt.
Of course, there’s also Baldur’s Gate 3, which went into Early Access last October and is described as a “great sandbox to drive Larian’s RPG to its narrative limits” in our Baldur’s Gate 3 preview. The point is, there’s a lot for Baldur’s Gate lovers out there, and tomorrow you can get one of the series’ classic titles digitally for $30. It’s an exciting moment all around.
