Breath of the Wild 2 heads to the skies…

After years of anticipation, Nintendo has debuted a new video for the still-untitled future sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, as well as a 2022 release date, during E3 2021.

Breath of the Wild was a Switch launch release that revived the now-35-year-old franchise with an open-world format that broke new ground in the genre and is widely regarded as one of the most lauded games of all time.

That’s a long way of saying there’s a lot riding on the sequel, which Nintendo unveiled at E3 2019 with a surprise teaser trailer almost two years ago. It included the reappearance of Breath of the Wild’s Link and Zelda, as well as what seemed to be longstanding series nemesis Ganondorf.

The sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild isn’t Nintendo’s only significant Zelda project in the works: the firm is also working on an HD rerelease of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which was first published for the Nintendo Wii, scheduled for July 16th. The Skyward Sword version improves the visuals and introduces a new control system, allowing players to utilise a standard controller to play the Wii Remote-focused title.
