Capcom Arcade Stadium was announced earlier this year for the Nintendo Switch, and it will be available on Steam on May 25. It will be released as a free container app with one game—1943: The Battle of Midway—and if you want two, you’ll have to buy packs for $15 each, or $40 for all three. It’s not a bad deal, because more packs are on the way.
It’s exciting news for anybody who still enjoys old-school arcade games, plus it comes with a slew of other benefits. You’ll be able to rewind your game if you make a mistake, change the game’s speed, and pause and reload it. Each game includes an online leaderboard and local multiplayer support, as well as emulation view options such as adding scanlines. However, there is one catch: Capcom needs you to pay extra money if you want to cheat.
Capcom proudly revealed today in a new ‘additional content’ trailer that “with paid DLC” you can experience invincibility through all games in the box. You can also buy additional display frames, which are the images that sit behind the 4:3 aspect ratio gaming screens.
It seems to be stingy. Not long ago, the idea of paying for cheats seems fanciful; today, it’s the standard. Even, for others, these retro collections are less about playing games and more about poring over artefacts. Cheats like this can be useful if you want to sample history without having to deal with the frustrating (and coin-hungry) nature of these games. There is no news about how much this cheat would cost at the time of publication.
