Diablo 2: Resurrected will be released on September 23rd. Blizzard revealed the date during today’s Xbox E3 webcast, along with the announcement of an August multiplayer beta.
Diablo 2’s remastered edition features 4K resolution and 7.1 Dolby Surround audio, as well as “recreated” cinematics and quality of life improvements like a bigger hoard and automated gold pickup. Players who like the old-school experience may convert to the original resolution—good ol’ 800×600—and back again with a single button, and cross-platform progression is enabled through a connected Battle.net account across all platforms.
The Diablo 2: Resurrected open beta will take place in August—the exact date has yet to be announced—on “supported systems,” which have also yet to be defined. The Amazon, Barbarian, Paladin, Sorceress, and Druid classes will be available to beta players, but the Necromancer and Assassin classes will be unavailable until the game’s release. Blizzard CEO J. Allen Brack stated that “tester comments will help us put the final touches on a game we believe gamers will continue to love for many years to come.”
Diablo 2: Resurrected will cost $40 standalone or $60 as part of the Diablo Prime Evil Collection, which also includes the Diablo 3 Eternal Collection (which includes Diablo 3, the Reaper of Souls expansion, and the Rise of the Necromancer pack), as well as the Mephisto pet and Hatred’s Grasp wings for Diablo 3. Preordering also grants you access to the beta and the Heritage of Arreat transmog, which gives Diablo 3 barbarians the blue warpaint and leather armour they wore in Diablo 2.
The seminal, 21-year-old ARPG is very simple by today’s standards, but it wasn’t appreciated by PC gamers at the time for nothing, and clicking on skeletons until they’re double-dead is still enjoyable. Visit diablo2.com for the most up-to-date information.
