The latest RPG from the Suikoden series’ designers is coming to Xbox and PC via Game Pass. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and a surprise spin-off, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, will both premiere on the service in 2020 after earning over $4.5 million on Kickstarter.
I’ve never played a Suikoden game, but fans are ecstatic that the series’ creators, Yoshitaka Murayama and Junko Kawano, are working on a new RPG. Eiyuden includes a standard 6-person party structure with “painfully constructed” 2D sprites and 3D backdrops, according to the Kickstarter.
Surprisingly, Xbox is revealing this launch collaboration so far in advance of either game’s release. Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, a new game mentioned in the teaser, will be released in 2022, while Hundred Heroes will be released in 2023, a year later than originally intended.
Eiyuden Chronicle now has a Steam page. Rising is described as an action-RPG “based in the same universe as Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes,” with “town-building mechanisms, fast-paced fighting, and essential back-story for some of the Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes cast of characters.”
Here’s the full synopsis:
“Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a town-building action RPG set in the same world as Eiyuden Chronicle. It weaves together the pre-war tales of various characters who will eventually become your companions in the Eiyuden Chronicle.
“The game will introduce a portion of Eiyuden Chronicle’s cast of characters in an original story with thrilling action and engaging town-building elements.
“There might even be some small perks for players that link the game with Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes.”
