On the Epic Games Store, two new games are currently available for free for the duration of the week: Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead, an unusual zombie building game, and Ironcast, a turn-based tactical match-three game inspired by Victorian sci-fi.
When Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead was released in 2020, we dubbed it “the year’s oddest crossover.” It’s physics-based bridge building, as you’d think, but instead of anonymous avatars, the builders are The Walking Dead characters like Daryl, Michonne, and Eugene, who build bridges and other buildings throughout the ruins of the United States while hauling ass from swarms of zombies. It may sound ridiculous, but I can think of worse reasons to construct a bridge. (And it’s definitely not meant to be taken seriously, which is a welcome change from TWD’s typical nonstop bleakness.)
Ironcast is a unique mashup in and of itself. In an alternate history 19th century, you’ll pilot a steam-powered mech against the British Empire’s various adversaries, fueling your guns and defenses by creating matches on a Bejeweled-style gaming board. The gameplay is similar to Puzzle Quest (or my personal genre fave, Bret Airborne, and yes, I do love match-three games), but with an extra layer of light system management and some 2D mech-on-mech fireworks.
Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead and Ironcast are both free for one week, which means you have until July 15 to claim them. They will be replaced with the Myst-like adventure Obduction and the Martian merchant sim Offworld Trading Company after that.
