Okomotive, an independent developer, revealed its latest meditative adventure game Far: Changing Tides at this year’s PC Gaming Show. It’s a direct sequel to the studio’s last game, Far: Lone Sails, but instead of driving a beat-up truck over a desolate environment, you’ll be sailing across undiscovered waters this time.
Far: Lone Sails was one of my favorite games when it initially came out three years ago, and it appears like this sequel will be right on its tail. You’ve been charged with driving a ship across a wet environment, scavenging for ship components to keep your massive behemoth going. Changing Tides appears to be a softly contemplative adventure that conveys its post-apocalyptic plot through atmospheric and environmental cues.
One scene in the trailer that piqued my interest was when your small figure exited the ship. You could only truly explore the local region surrounding the ship in Lone Sails, but it’s completely different here. You may cross dry ground, visit abandoned towns, climb shaky structures, and even dive into the depths of the ocean in Changing Tides. The figure is shown in the teaser exploring an undersea cemetery full of wrecked ships. Hopefully, that will not be the case for you.
Okomotive, in collaboration with developer and publisher Frontier Foundry, will release Far: Changing Tides on Steam and the Epic Games Store at the end of 2021. That will give you plenty of time to check Lone Sails.
