Sonic Colors: Ultimate announced

One of Sonic the Hedgehog’s most adored games is making a comeback. Sega announced today that Sonic Colors: Ultimate, a remastered version of the game, will be released on September 7th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Sega said the updated edition will include “amazing visuals, more features, a new mode, and greater gameplay refinements” from the original, which debuted in 2010. Rise of the Wisps, a two-part animated tie-in, will also be released for the game. The first episode will be released later this summer.

The unveiling was the centerpiece of a Sonic-themed event that also featured the debut of numerous other games. Sega also revealed that the next flagship Sonic title from Sonic Team is in the works — though no solid specifics are known yet, other than a 2022 release date — as well as a new compilation of vintage titles dubbed Sonic Origins, which will include the original three games as well as Sonic CD. Oh, and Sonic Prime is the name of the animated Netflix series.

Sonic Mania and Team Sonic Racing have recently released on Amazon’s Luna cloud service; both of those titles, as well as Sonic Forces, will be accessible on PlayStation Now on June 1st; and Sonic Mania will be accessible through the Epic Games Store on June 24th.
