Arma 3 traveled to Vietnam in April with the S.O.G. Prairie Fire DLC, which featured a variety of new weaponry and vehicles from the era, as well as a new terrain based on a fictionalized depiction of the whole area of operations of the Vietnam War. CSLA Iron Curtain, a new DLC published today, also sends players back in time, although not nearly as far and in a completely different region: the 1980s border between Czechoslovakia and the Federal Republic of Germany.
The CSLA Iron Curtain (CSLA stands for “eskoslovenská lidová armáda” in Czech and “eskoslovenská udová armáda” in Slovak, which translate to Czechoslovak People’s Army, the Czechoslovakian armed forces until 1990) is meant to simulate the outbreak of hostilities between the East and West during the Cold War. Gabreta, a new terrain featuring “thick woods, windswept mountains, quiet valleys, a railway network, and different military outposts,” is included, as are three new factions representing the United States, Czechoslovakia, and local rebel fighters.
The DLC also includes 35 new weapons and 52 new vehicles (including variations), as well as nine single-player scenarios, one single-player Showcase scenario, and nine multiplayer scenarios. To level the playing field, a “compatibility data pack” was also published, allowing players who did not pay the DLC to access its features on multiplayer servers. Terrain and single-player content, on the other hand, will be available exclusively by purchasing the pack.
Following Global Mobilization – Cold War Germany and S.O.G. Prairie Fire, CSLA Iron Curtain is the third Creator DLC release, allowing third-party developers to create and commercialize Arma 3 content as official releases. When Global Mobilization – Cold War Germany was released in 2019, Bohemia Interactive stated that Creator DLC “aims to provide more original quality content to Arma 3 players, create an opportunity for outside talent to earn a financial reward, while also allowing us to invest more into the Arma series’ long-term future.”
