Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands: not the Borderlands spin-off you think it is

The rumour is true: Gearbox announced during today’s Summer Game Fest Kickoff webcast that it is working on Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a Borderlands spinoff “full of whimsy, wonder, and high-powered weapons.” But it’s probably not what you’re looking for.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is a stand-alone game with co-op play for up to four players with “repeatable end-game material.” Players will design and design their own unique multiclass characters before embarking on an adventure “through a chaotic fantasy world” to destroy the wicked Dragon Lord, meeting characters such as a lute-wielding Bardbarian and the Fairy Punchfather along the way.

Tiny Tina will be voiced again by Ashly Burch, Captain Valentine will be played by Andy Samberg, a rules-obsessed robot named Frette will be played by Wanda Sykes, and the Dragon Lord will be played by Will Arnett.

“Wonderlands is the result of more than a decade of on-and-off work at Gearbox Software toward a role-playing shooter set in a fantasy environment,” stated Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford. “It’s a dream come true for me to bring authentic Borderlands weaponry to battle dragons, skeletons, goblins, and more in an original fantasy world conceived by the galaxy’s deadliest 13-year-old, Tiny Tina, as a new, full-featured triple-A videogame.”

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is scheduled to be released in early 2022 for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. For the time being, you may learn more at playwonderlands.com.
